While in Kyoto, we decided to get the full Japanese experience and stay two nights in a Ryokan. A Ryokan is a traditional Japanese Inn where you get to experience traditional Japanese lifestyle and hospitality. The one we stayed at had tatami floors, futon beds, rice paper walls, and served local cuisines.
Definitely a cool experience. Much more expensive than normal hotels, but worth it for the experience! Probably not that great for young kids though. The walls are paper thin so you can hear every little noise. Also, everything is at their level, meaning everything is in reach of little hands. Lucky for us, nothing was broken and the rice paper walls all stayed intact!
So cool... you are brave...
